Track the cutting tools and holders in your shop — each tool and the physical units you own of it.
Tool inventory keeps track of the cutting tools and holders in your shop. It works on two levels: a tool is the catalogue entry, the spec of a particular end mill or drill, and its units are the actual physical copies you own, each tracked on its own.
So "10mm flat end mill, 4 flute" is one tool, and the three you have in the drawer are three units of it, each with its own condition.
Tool types
A tool is one of nine types, which also decides what specifications it asks for.

Unit statuses
Each physical unit carries a condition, so you can tell a fresh tool from a worn one.

| New | Unused |
| Used | In service and still good |
| Re-sharpened | Reground and back in use |
| Dull | Worn, needs regrinding or replacing |
| Broken | No longer usable |
